Celiac Disease
Celiac disease is a digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with
absorption of nutrients from food. People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, a
protein in wheat, rye, and barley. Gluten is found mainly in foods but may also be found in
everyday products such as medicines, vitamins, and lip balms. Potential sources of gluten in processed foods and beverages: watch for these words on labels of processed foods.
They are a tip-off that the product contains gluten: Emulsifiers, Hydrolyzed plant protein,
natural flavorings, stabilizers, starch, wheat, rye, barley.Potential Sources of Gluten In

Lactose Intolerance: What is lactose intolerance? Lactose intolerance means your body has trouble digesting, or
breaking down, lactose. Lactose is the sugar found in milk and milk products. The small
intestine—an organ in the digestive tract—needs lactase enzyme to break down lactose.
With lactose intolerance, your body doesn’t make enough lactase enzyme to properly
digest lactose. |
